dedicated to Kenadie’s story.

Kenadie was born on February 13, 2003, in a frenzy of concern and dire predictions, but unlike the other babies fighting for their lives in the NICU, Kenadie was bright-eyed and eager to live, determined to defy the odds. It was a Thursday and as the saying goes, “Thursday’s child has far to go”. Something Kenadie has embraced from day one.

From the moment she entered the world, she has been the centre of attention. Everyone has been entranced by her, from doctors, nurses, and students, to teachers and even complete strangers. We knew she was special, but we still had no real idea just how special until we got our first clue when she was eight months old. A lovely doctor, with a fascinated twinkle in her eye, said that she believed that Kenadie might have Primordial Dwarfism. We finally had something to look into and when she was 18 months old, we finally got a formal diagnosis from an amazing team of doctors at the LPA conference in 2004. With a definite answer as to what made Kenadie so unique, we were also able to plan for the future.

It wasn’t only the people who met her that were fascinated by her. The media was enthralled by her story and over the years she has been featured on several TV documentaries, in the news and on entertainment shows. She has also been the topic of many newspaper and magazine articles across the world. We also appeared on The Marilyn Denis Show, on Montel Williams and The Maury Povich Show. And not in a “who’s the daddy” kind of way.

In 2007 we were approached by a Dutch film company who wanted to know if Kenadie was interested in staring in a children’s film. Of course, she was very excited and I have to say that the film company, crew and everyone we worked with on this project was absolutely fantastic. They made it a truly unforgettable experience and watching that footage is wonderful and magical.

Over the years, Kenadie has certainly had many adventures and experienced many joys, but she has also experienced pain, confusion and feelings of isolation in equal measure. It has not been an easy road. And her journey has been getting more difficult as the years move on. Medically she struggles with fatigue and chronic pain. She gets easily overwhelmed in most social situations and can only cope with them for short periods of time. In fact, home and peace and quiet are her happy place. She enjoys watching YouTube, listening to music, playing with stress toys and opening blind bag collectables. She loves her snacks, McDonald’s, the Dollar Store, Toys R Us, Bath and Body Works, her 2 cats Gracie and Mortimer, bedtime and her fans!

Kenadie has a rare and wonderful spirit, a special, pure energy that has touched many people all across the globe and I feel so blessed that she chose me to be her mom. We are best friends and spend most of our time together.

As her mom, watching the influence of her spirit is a very special gift that has changed me in the most wonderful ways. As her story has spread, we have received so much love from the communities that we have been a part of. I am so incredibly grateful for the prayers, wishes and love that are directed at her as I truly believe this makes a difference.

it is my great honour to be loved by her.
